Self storage questions, answered
How do I book storage?
Pick your move-in date and how long you need, and see live availability. Choose a size, add your details and upload one photo ID, then read your storage agreement and pay online. You pay for the length you booked by card, and in the same checkout you set up the Direct Debit that renews your storage afterwards. Your booking is confirmed the moment your card payment goes through. Your storage agreement is emailed to you as a PDF.
How much does it cost?
Flat prices by container size, from £65 a week (or £250 a month). The minimum stay is one week. A stay under a month is priced weekly and a month or longer is priced monthly, with any extra days charged pro rata. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay, plus a refundable £50.00 holding deposit.
How do I pay?
Your first payment is always by card: when you book you pay in full for the length you chose (a week, two weeks, a month, three months and so on), plus the deposit, and your booking is confirmed at once. In the same checkout you set up a Direct Debit from your UK bank account, which is required to complete the booking. After that your storage renews automatically for the same length each time (booked one week: every week; booked one month: every month) and each renewal is collected by Direct Debit. We email you at least 6 working days before every collection, so you never need to pay by hand. Payments go through Stripe, our secure payment provider.
Is the Direct Debit safe?
Yes. You set it up on the secure page of Stripe, our payment provider, and we never see your full account number. Every Direct Debit is protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee: you are told the amount and date in advance, you get a full and immediate refund from your bank if an error is made, and you can cancel it with your bank at any time. Cancelling it does not end your booking, though, so please also tell us if you want to leave.
Where is your storage yard?
Our container storage yard is in Walthamstow, London E17 3NT, a short drive from Leyton, Leytonstone, Chingford, Highams Park, Woodford, Wanstead, Stratford, Tottenham, Clapton and Hackney. Access 7 days a week, by arrangement. You can drive right up to your container, or we can collect your belongings from anywhere in London. Directions are on our Locations page.
What size are the containers?
Every unit is a private, lockable 20 ft steel container with 160 sq ft of floor space, room for the contents of a two- or three-bedroom home. First-floor containers stand on the ground for easy drive-up loading; second-floor containers sit on top and give you the same space for less.
Is there a deposit?
Yes, a refundable holding deposit of £50.00, paid once when you book and never part of a Direct Debit collection. After you move out we check the container and refund it to the card or bank account you paid with, usually within 14 days. We only keep any of it to cover money owed, cleaning or clearing out the container, or damage you caused, and we always tell you why.
Why do you need my ID?
We need to know who stores with us, to keep the yard and everyone's goods safe. We ask for one photo ID when you book; it is kept privately and only our team can see it.
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes. Because you book online, you can cancel within 14 days of booking without giving a reason: just email us. We refund everything you paid, including the deposit. If you asked for your storage to start within those 14 days, we only keep an amount for the days you have already used. After 14 days, you can end your storage by giving us 7 days' notice.
What happens at the end of my booking?
Nothing, unless you want to leave: your storage renews automatically for the same length you first booked, and the renewal is collected by Direct Debit after we have emailed you the amount and date. To leave, give us at least 7 days' notice by email; we stop the Direct Debit, you empty the container and remove your lock, and we check it and refund your deposit. Any days beyond the last period you paid for are charged pro rata.
Can you collect my belongings?
Yes. Tick the collection option when you book and tell us your address. Because every move is different (volume, distance, access and stairs), collection is quoted personally, usually over WhatsApp, and agreed with you before it happens. It is not included in your storage price.
Are my goods insured?
We offer optional insurance cover for stored goods, which you can add to your booking whenever it is offered at checkout. Unless you take cover through us, your goods are stored at your own risk, so please arrange your own insurance. Many home insurance policies can cover goods in storage.
What can I not store?
Anything hazardous, flammable, perishable or illegal, food, living creatures or plants, weapons, waste, and cash, jewellery or other valuables. If in doubt, ask us first.
How do I make a complaint?
Email us at bookings@lcstorage.co.uk, call or WhatsApp us, or write to us, with your name, your booking reference and what went wrong. We reply in writing within 5 working days. If you are still not happy, one of the owners reviews it and sends you our final answer. The full procedure is in our Terms and Conditions.
When can I access my things?
Once your payment has cleared, you can access your container during our opening hours or at a time arranged with us. Message or call us and we will meet you at your container.
The full details are in our Terms and Conditions and your storage agreement.
